Hospitality Teams
Our teams are responsible for acolyting, greeting, ushering, and serving communion at every service. Each team has one or more team leaders who schedule individuals for various duties. At this time, 8:15am teams are responsible for every other months, and 10:45am teams have one month per quarter. Special services, such as Easter and Christmas, are always served by volunteers rather than the team assigned a given month. All available volunteers are called upon during the summer when we shift to one Sunday morning service. Altar Guild The altar guild bears the unseen hands of preparation. These teams serve for one month each year, preparing the communion table with the bread and wine and clearing the table after worship. Their time ‘washing dishes’ is always precious for growing relationships and engaging in the quiet service of God’s people. |
Greeters
Our greeters are the first faces people encounter when they come to worship. Greeters don’t have to be naturally out-going, but simply willing to smile, say ‘hello,’ and welcome you into this space as a beloved Child of God. They are God’s arms of acceptance as we gather together. Ushers Our ushers are considered the worship concierges. They answer questions about the location of the restrooms, guide people to their seats, distribute worship materials, assist individuals through communion, gather the gifts, count attendance, and secure the offering—all with a warm smile and a welcoming presence. They are the hosts that invite us into the worship space and allow us to move without worry to where we need to be. They are an extension of God’s grace and presence as we make our way into community. Acolytes Acolytes have the privilege of bearing the light of Christ in the community. They light the candles before worship, assist with offering, and extinguish the candles after worship—but not before carrying the light of Christ out of the Sanctuary and into the world. |
Communion Assistants
Our communion assistants could be better known as table servants. They don’t have special knowledge, and they aren’t holier than anyone else. They are simply and deeply committed to telling each and every one of us how much God loves us. God loves us enough to say, “This is my body and my blood, broken and shed FOR YOU.” Serving at the table means that we are humble enough to know it is God’s work being done—not ours. It is God who is holy—not us. It is God who forgives—and uses our hands and voices to do so. Powerpoint Operators This is a ministry of presence. It takes very little technological understanding but great concentration. Our worship slide operators usually have just one button to push—but they focus their energy and attention on the needs of worshipers as we gather our voices in prayer and praise. |
