Catechism, 2017-18
|
Who: 5th-8th grade students AND 'home' adults
When: Wednesdays, 6:45p.m.-7:45p.m.
Where: OSLC Community Room
Curriculum: 'Co-Lab-Orate' covers the following topics: Lutheran History/Catechism, Lutheran Living, Old Testament, and New Testament (learn about this resource here)
What: Catechism is what is previously known as 'Confirmation.' Catechism Class is meant to help young people ask questions about faith, family, history, and the world. We do not presume to have all the answers, and the point of this class is not to bestow information about God. Rather, we expect to encounter the complexity and mystery of God in community--in worship, Word, and meal. Students are invited to Affirm their Baptismal promises and be commissioned for service in the fall of their 9th grade year on Reformation Sunday.
Additional Expectations:
Confirmation Camp--Students attend the second week of Carol Joy Holling Camp during the summer after their 7th grade year. Learn more about the camp here.
Faith Companions--Beginning in 7th grade, students are asked to identify a congregational adult who becomes a companion in service, worship, and growth. Faith companions develop their relationship throughout the high school experience.
Sermon Notes--Students are expected to attend worship and Sunday School regularly. These activities help to build relationships and foster questions and respect for our history, traditions, and ministry. 5th-6th graders are expected to complete 10 sermon notes during the year. 7th-8th graders are expected to complete 20.
